Tonopah And Goldfield R.R. Depot

In July 1903, the Tonopah R.R. Co. began construction from Tonopah Junction. In 1904 the depot was built and in July a Railroad Days Celebration was held to commemorate the arrival of the tracks in Tonopah. The ground for the depot was donated by the McNamara Mining Co. but was claimed by two lot jumpers who set up their tents before it was fenced. Clyde Jackson, a company owner, came along and ordered them off. They demurred, a fight ensued, the lot jumpers were thoroughly trounced and the grounds were saved. Thus Tonopah justice prevailed the hard way.

Dedicated this 12th day of May 1973 by the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus Snow-Shoe Thomson Chapter 1827
